Call for Artists: Fort William Mural Commission Now Open

BID Fort William is inviting mural artists to apply for an exciting new public art commission in the heart of the town centre. We’re seeking proposals that will transform the gable end of 129 High Street into a cultural landmark.

A Gateway to the High Street

Positioned at one of the main entry points to the pedestrianised High Street, the selected wall faces a high-traffic route used by both locals and visitors. This is a unique opportunity to shape the visual identity of Fort William’s town centre and contribute to the vibrancy of the area.

The finished mural will aim to:

  • Reflect Fort William’s unique character, culture, or natural surroundings
  • Increase footfall and dwell time along the High Street
  • Create a welcoming, memorable landmark for all who pass through

What We’re Looking For

This opportunity is open to professional mural artists or collectives with experience working at scale and delivering public-facing artworks. We’re particularly interested in concepts that:

  • Are bold and vibrant without being distracting to passing traffic
  • Celebrate Fort William’s local identity in a fresh, contemporary way
  • Avoid overt political, religious, or commercial messaging

Artists should be able to deliver a finished mural on-site in Spring 2026, subject to final funding. All shortlisted concepts will be reviewed in consultation with local businesses, the community, and key stakeholders.
