Halloween Art Competition with Inverlochy and Lundavra Primary Schools

BID Fort William was delighted to run a Halloween Art Competition with Inverlochy and Lundavra Primary Schools, celebrating young creativity while encouraging local spend in Fort William.

The response from pupils was fantastic. A total of 170 pieces of artwork were submitted across both schools, giving judges Jim and Nicola McCallum of McCallum Art House a very tough job.

Both judges were blown away by the standard of entries and the imagination on display.

Jim commented that it was brilliant to see so many different interpretations of Halloween, adding that choosing winners was far from easy due to the level of engagement and creativity shown. Many of the drawings captured a real sense of fun, experimentation and excitement in the process of making art.

The Winners

The winners were:

  • Nina (P1–3, Inverlochy Primary School)
  • Aamira (P4–5, Inverlochy Primary School)
  • Viga (P1–3, Lundavra Primary School)
  • Isac (P4–7, Inverlochy Primary School)

Each winner received a £10 Shop Local voucher to spend in Fort William, supporting local businesses and helping keep money circulating in the town.

Why This Matters

From the BID’s perspective, this competition was about more than just Halloween fun. It brought together local schools, a town centre business and families, while reinforcing the importance of shopping locally.

It also helped introduce the Shop Local vouchers to pupils and parents ahead of the festive period, encouraging future spend with levy-paying businesses.

A Community-Led Approach

BID Fort William would like to thank Inverlochy and Lundavra Primary Schools, McCallum Art House, and everyone who took part. The enthusiasm from the pupils — and the support from local businesses — made this a real success.

These small, practical initiatives help strengthen connections between the town centre and the wider community, while delivering visible value for levy payers.
